Workshop organized on child marriage in Ranchi

Ranchi: The workshop was jointly organized by Kailash Satyarthi Children Foundation and District Legal Services Authority. The theme of this workshop was “Child Marriage”. The workshop was organized at Gramodaya Vikas Vidyalaya of Badam village of Namkum block. The workshop was presided over by Rakesh Ranjan, Secretary, and Legal Services Authority. He said that children should avoid getting married. They need to take decisions themselves.

Children will have to stand up against atrocities against children. Also, public representatives and villagers all know in which village and whose child is getting married. Therefore they have to be aware. 

District Coordinator of Gramodaya Vikas Vidyalaya, Arvind Kumar said that the bride and groom’s side, Pandit, Priest, Maulvi, Pastor, Tent and Confectioner involved in child marriage come under the purview of Child Marriage Prohibition Act 2006.

For this, all the men involved can be jailed for two years, fined Rs 1 lakh or both, depending on the court. Women will not be jailed, but will be fined Rs 2 lakh. Dalsa Ranchi’s advocate Rajesh Kumar Sinha explained in detail the legal provisions on child marriage, child labour, child trafficking and sexual exploitation. Gave a message to spread this information to as many people as possible.

He discussed the complex provisions of POCSO and child sexual abuse. Also discussed the fundamental rights and duties of children. On this occasion, 70 people including Pratap Mahato, Tara Minj, Munni Devi, Sunaina Minj, Satish Kumar, and Raja Verma were present.
