Ranchi: Married Hindu Women on Friday Morning offered prayer and tied sacred thread to divine Banyan Tree on the occasion of ‘Vat Savitri Amavasya Puja’ for the longevity of their husband in Ranchi on Friday.
As per ancient Hindu traditions, rituals were performed by married Hindu Women to worship the holy Banyan Tree.
A married Hindu Woman Diksha Mishra Said, “According to Hindu Religion we are celebrating this festival from generation to generation.”
In ancient times there was a king who had a daughter after his prolonged prayer to God and her name was Savitri.
Savitri was elegant and she fell in love with Prince Satyavan from her nearby Kingdom.
But Devarshi Narad arrived and said Satyavan will die after his marriage within a year.
So Savitri gathered near the Holy Banyan Tree and started worshiping God.
God of Justice Yumraj pleased and blessed Savitri with three blessings.
First Savitri asked to give vision to her father and mother-in-law.
The second one was to bless her with the lost Kingdom.
And the third and final one was to bless her with 100 Children.
Yumraj fulfilled her all blessings and forgave the life of her husband Satyavan.
This was the reason behind celebrating Vat Savitri Festival, said Mrs Mishra.
On this day, married women tie threads to the holy Banyan tree and take Parikrama of the divine tree.
They light earthen lamps in front of the tree and worship it.
New Clothes and decorations were done by women to celebrate this festival.
Women fast from morning till evening and rituals are being done on this day.
Women who celebrate this festival pray for the longevity of their husbands.
