Uprising Basketball League to be launched for the first time in India

Ranchi:  The establishment of the first Uprising League in Indian basketball history – U League was announced. The U League will be a dynamic developmental basketball league dedicated to nurturing emerging talent and fostering the next generation of basketball stars.

The U League is set to redefine the landscape of basketball, providing a platform where aspiring players can hone their skills, showcase their talents and fulfill their dreams of a professional basketball career. With a commitment to excellence, inclusivity and player development, our league aims to create a fertile ground for the future champions of the game.

The inaugural season of the U League is scheduled to begin in February 2024. 16 men’s teams and 6 women’s teams will compete in an exciting league format. 

16 men’s teams – Kanpur, Raipur, Banaras, Gurugram, Aizawl, Srinagar, Ranchi, Bhopal, Noida, Cuttack, Nagpada, Pondicherry, Patna, Vizag, Dehradun. 6 women’s teams – to be based in Ludhiana, Vadodara, Indore, Jaipur, Kochi and Hyderabad.

Sunny Bhandarkar, CEO of Elite Pro Basketball, said that instead of nurturing only 50 basketball players, Elite Pro Basketball aims to have 6 women’s teams in EPBL, EWPBL and U.S. in the next 3 months. More than 700 jobs are to be created through the league, which is the biggest. We will create employment opportunities for players, coaches, physical trainers, management personnel, trainees and many others related to basketball in India.
