Rnchi: Uninterrupted Monsoon rains since the last 24 hours has got the rivers and the dams over flowing in the state.
This is the first occasion this year around when the entire state has been witnessing rainfall across the 24 districts. In several areas water was also over flowing from the small bridges and culvert.
In the state capital of Ranchi the water level of three dams has increased due to which for the second occasion within 12 days the gates of Gonda Dam have been opened.
As per the director of the local MET Department Dr SD Kotal due to a low pressure in the Bay of Bengal and coastal areas of Odisha in Jharkhand also a strong system is prevailing due to which on Thursday it had rained in the state and on Friday also more rains are expected.
On Thursday Ranchi had recorded 71mm of rainfall while Jamshedpur had reported 124.8 mm while in Medninagar 12 mm of rainfall has been reported. On Friday three gates of Gonda dam were opened while on August 7, two gates had been opened as water level had reached 28 feet. On the other hand the water level of Hatia Dam has increased by 2.2 feet and now stands at 23.6 feet and once the water level reaches 25 feet the overall storage capacity will be at the Safe level as per authorities. The water level at Rukka Dam has too reached to 30.8 feet.
On the other hand the weather department has predicted for more rains from August 23 onwards. The weatherman said due to low pressure system in Bay of Bengal and Odisha the rains would again take place in the state and it is likely that rains would persist in the state till August 27.
Due to 18 hour of rainfall on Thursday the maximum temperature in the state capital fell down by 6 degrees and was recorded at 24.2 degrees. The rainfall has turned out to be a boon in such areas where people were facing water crisis as the under ground level has increased.
However on the other hand the rainfall has opened the real conditions of works of the municipal corporation and power department as due to heavy winds in rainfall in many areas power remained cut for several hours, further in many low laying areas water also got inside the homes.
