Tribal organisations issue fresh deadline for implementation of Sarna Religious Code

Ranchi: The tribal organisations have once again commenced their preparations to organise a rail-road Chakka Jam over the issue of Sarna religious code.

The tribal outfits have issued a fresh ultimatum to the Centre of December 30 to implement the Sarna religious code failing to do which on January 31 in Jharkhand, Bihar, Bengal, Assam, Odisha and Chhattisgarh rail and road Chakka Jam would be organised.

Information in this regard was shared during a joint press conference which was held on Sunday by the representatives of Kendriya Sarna Samiti, Akhil Bhartiya Adivasi Vikas Parishad and Adivasi Sengel Abhiyaan.

Central president of Kendriya Sarna Samiti Phoolchand Tirkey said that the agitation of December 6 was a success. He said that the tribals have become aware of their rights and at any cost want the Sarna religious code in 2021 for which tribals across the state are staging agitation but the centre was neglecting the demands of the tribals.

The organisation said that preparations for the second stage of agitation was on. General Secretary of Akhil Bhartiya Adivasi Vikas Parishad Lalit Kacchap said that only one and a half months are left for the census and in such a scenario by not giving the religious code the centre was doing step-motherly treatment to them and if their due will not be given then 15 crore tribals will oppose the census.
