Tragedy in Dhanbad: Six labourers electrocuted while putting electric poles on railway tracks

Dhanbad: Six labours were electrocuted while putting up an electric pole near the Jharkhor halt between the Dhanbad- Gomoh rail section of the East Central Railway (ECR) Zone.

Dhanbad Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Kamal Kishore Sinha who reached the incident spot in a short time said that six labours died in the incident and a probe into the tragedy is being conducted.

Baghmara deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Nisha Murmu also reached the spot and assessed the tragedy. She said that six labours became victims in it.

The official said the incident occurred around 11.35 am. Labours were erecting an electric pole when it fell down on 25000- volt overhead railway line wire. Since they were in contact of the pole, they received a major jolt on the spot and fell down.

Official sources said eight labours were working in which six died on the spot while two of them reportedly fled from the spot in panic. The incident took place near Nichitpur railway station, around 28 km away from Dhanbad district headquarters.

The deceased labours were identified as Govind Singh, Shyam Deo Singh ( Palamu) Suresh Mishtri Shyam Dev ( Latehar) and Sanjay Ray. One deceased is yet to be identified.

Getting information, Dhanbad DRM Kamal Kishore Sinha along with senior officials, including ADRM Ashish Kumar Jha, and senior commercial manager Amresh Kumar, also reached the spot immediately for a rescue operation.

All labours were employees of a petty contractor who fled from the spot after the incident. Local people alleged that labours were working without safety tools. Following the incident, up and down trains on Grand Chord Line were stopped at Dhanbad and Gomoh Junctions.
