Three-day Rotary district conference begins in Ranchi

Ranchi: A three-day Rotary District Conference titled “Samagam” began at Ranchi Club premises on Friday, bringing together Rotarians from Jharkhand and Bihar to deliberate on social needs and service initiatives. The conference, organised under the aegis of Rotary Club of Ranchi, will conclude on December 21.

Over 1,500 delegates from 125 Rotary clubs across both states are participating. The event was inaugurated by former Rotary International president Shekhar Mehta along with Rotary International representative Ravi Raman, former international directors Mahesh Kotbagi and Kamal Sanghvi, and district governor Namrata through the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. PDG Ajay Chhabra, chair of the day’s session, welcomed guests and released the district souvenir.

Addressing the gathering, Shekhar Mehta said Rotary is more than an organisation and represents a strong spirit of service. He highlighted Rotary’s contributions in education, healthcare, sanitation and environmental protection, urging members to reach people at the last mile. He said such conferences help exchange ideas and create new pathways for social transformation.

Ravi Raman said Rotary-led service activities are creating positive change in society and stressed the importance of collaboration with government and other organisations to achieve larger goals in education and health. He encouraged youth to actively participate in Rotary’s service initiatives.

District governor Namrata said the conference would strengthen Rotary’s service commitment, calling the coming together of 125 clubs on one platform a significant moment. She said it would help make efforts in education, health, sanitation and social welfare more impactful.

Rotary Club of Ranchi president Amit Agarwal said Samagam would provide fresh direction and momentum to service projects, while assistant governor and Rotary image chair Praveen Rajgaria termed the conference a matter of pride for Ranchi, saying collective deliberation on social needs reflects the true strength of Rotary.
