Tata Motors has received orders for more than 3,400 electric commercial vehicles (eCVs), underscoring the growing acceptance of electric mobility in India’s freight and passenger transport sectors.
The new orders comprise around 2,000 small commercial vehicles (SCVs) and pick-up trucks, nearly 900 electric trucks, and about 500 electric buses. These vehicles will be deployed across industries such as e-commerce, logistics, FMCG, consumer durables distribution, cement, steel, mining, tarmac operations, and urban passenger transport.
According to the company, the large order book reflects rising confidence among fleet operators in electric commercial vehicles and signals a shift from pilot projects to full-scale commercial deployment. Businesses are increasingly integrating EVs into their daily operations as they look to reduce operating costs and emissions.
Tata Motors has steadily expanded its electric commercial vehicle portfolio over the past year. Its small commercial vehicle lineup includes the Ace Pro EV, Ace EV and Intra EV, designed for last-mile and intra-city logistics. The company has also strengthened its presence in the medium and heavy commercial vehicle segment with the Ultra EV range, along with the Prima EV 55T tractor and Prima EV 28T tipper for heavy-duty freight applications.
In the passenger transport segment, Tata Motors offers the Starbus EV and Ultra EV buses for both city and inter-city services.
The company already has a significant electric fleet operating across India. More than 3,800 Tata electric buses have collectively covered over 550 million kilometres, while over 17,000 Tata electric small commercial vehicles are currently serving businesses across the country.
The latest orders further reinforce Tata Motors’ leadership in India’s electric commercial vehicle market and reflect the accelerating transition towards cleaner, zero-emission transportation solutions.
