Supreme Court issues notice to ED on default bail of Chhavi Ranjan

Ranchi: Hearing was held in the Supreme Court on the default bail of former Ranchi DC Chhavi Ranjan, accused in land scam. After the hearing, the court issued a notice to ED and directed it to file its reply. Now the top court will hear his bail application on 23 February. 

Hearing on Chhavi Ranjan’s default bail was held in the court of Supreme Court judge Justice Bela M Trivedi and Justice Pankaj Mittal.

Senior advocate Siddharth Aggarwal and advocate Abhishek Chaudhary argued on behalf of Chhavi Ranjan. The case in which Chhavi Ranjan has approached the Supreme Court for default bail is related to money laundering in the purchase and sale of a plot located on Cheshire Home Road.

ED has registered ECIR 1/2023 in this regard. Chhavi Ranjan is currently in judicial custody and Ranchi ED Special Court and Jharkhand High Court have refused to grant him default bail.
