Six Including doctor couple dead as fire breaks out in Hazra Hospital of Dhanbad

Dhanbad: Altogether six people lost their lives as fire broke out in the Hazra Hospital located on the exchange road of Purana Bazar under Bank Mode Police Station area of the city. Police said that fire broke out in the hospital in the wee hours of the day in which six people including Dr Vikas Hazra, his wife Dr Prema Hazra, nephew Sohail Kangaro cook Tara and two other relatives died.

Firefighters claimed that all of them had died due to suffocation and not burn injuries. It is being claimed that due to a short circuit, the fire broke out in the hospital around 2 AM and at that time the people were in deep sleep. After the hospital staff saw the flames and smoke they informed the police station and also the fire department.

Later five fire tenders reached the spot and doused the flames after which the bodies were taken out and sent for post-mortem to Shaheed Nirmal Mahto College and Hospital for post-mortem. Firefighters claimed that when they had taken out Dr Vikas Hazra he was found to be breathing and after giving him first aid the hospital he was taken to the Medical College but he died on the way.

The patients who were undergoing treatment in the hospital were also taken out safely and shifted to other clinics and hospitals. DSP Law and order Arvind Kumar along with officer incharge for Bank Mode Police Station PK Singh kept monitoring the rescue operations during which entry of outsiders was banned near the premises.

It is also claimed that there were no proper firefighting arrangements in the hospital and even the fire extinguisher was not in active mode.

On the other hand, Chief Minister Hemant Soren has expressed his grief over the tragic incident. He on Twitter said that he was pained to hear about the fire tragedy at Hazra Hospital in which doctor couple Dr Vikas and Dr Prema Hazra had died
