Setback to Prabhunath Singh as HC maintains judgement of lower court

Ranchi: Former MP Prbahunath Singh and his brother Dinanath Singh on Friday received a major set back from the Jharkhand High Court.

The High Court maintained the verdict of the lower court in connection with the case related to the murder of Masrakh MLA Ashok Singh. However, Ritesh Singh, nephew of Prabhunath Singh got a breather as the High Court acquitted him for lack of evidence.

The case goes back to 25 years. On July 3, 1995, in Patna, the then MLA from Masrakh seat Ashok Singh was killed in broad daylight as bombs were hurled on him. In this case, Prabhunath Singh his brother Denanath Singh and nephew Ritesh Singh were named as accused.

On May 18, 2017 in the Hazaribagh sessions court, the court of justice Surendra Sharma had awarded the trio life imprisonment in the case and had also imposed a fine of Rs 40,000 each on them.

Later Prabhunath Singh challenged the verdict in the High Court. The High Court on August 28 maintained the life imprisonment given to the former MP and his brother while his nephew was acquitted.
