Security forces launch joint op against top Maoist leaders, seize weapons, explosives

Ranchi: A joint security operation has been launched to curb the ongoing activities of the banned Maoist group, Bhartiya Communist Party (Maoist), in the Saranda/ Kolhan region. The top leaders of the group, including Misir Besra, Anmol, Mochu, Anil, Aseem Mandal, Ajay Mahato, Sagen Angaria, Ashwin, Pintoo Lohra, Chandan Lohra, Amit Hansda alias Apton, Jaykant, and Rapa Munda, along with their squad members, have been actively engaged in destructive activities within this area. To tackle this threat, a combined team comprising Chaiwasa police, COBRA 209 BN, Jharkhand Jaguar, and multiple CRPF battalions (60 BN, 197 BN, 174 BN, 193 BN, 134 BN, and 26 BN) has been conducting continuous operations in the region.

Since 2022, security forces have been relentlessly carrying out joint operations under the jurisdiction of Goilkera Police Station, focusing on the border areas of villages such as Kuiida, Chhota Kuiida, Maradiri, Meralgada, Hathiburu, Tilaybeda, Boypaissang, Katumba, Bayhatu, Boroy, and Lemsaithih, along with the Tonto Police Station area, which includes villages like Husipi, Rajabasa, Tumbahaka, Regda, Patatorb, Goburu, and Luya. These operations are aimed at curbing the rising Maoist threat in the region.

In the latest phase of the operation, information was received regarding the hiding of weapons and ammunition by Maoist insurgents in the hilly and forested areas under Tonto Police Station. In response, on March 18, 2025, a search operation was initiated in the forest areas around the villages of Hathiburu and Lowabeda in Goilkera Police Station. During the search, security forces successfully located and destroyed a Maoist dump in the forest between Hathiburu and Lowabeda, along with the recovery of explosive materials. The explosives were safely destroyed at the site with the assistance of bomb disposal units to ensure the safety of the area. A large quantity of ammunition and other daily-use materials was also recovered from the Maoist dump, and it has been seized in accordance with legal procedures.

The ongoing anti-Naxal operation in the region is continuing, with security forces committed to dismantling the Maoist network and ensuring the safety and security of the local population. The operation is being carried out with a unified approach, with collaboration between various security agencies in order to neutralize the growing threat posed by the insurgents in the Kolhan region.
