Mumbai: Bollywood star Salman Khan has approached the Delhi High Court seeking to stop the release of the upcoming film Kaala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy, alleging that the project unlawfully exploits his name, image and public persona.
In a petition filed before the High Court, Salman Khan has sought both permanent and interim injunctions against the film’s makers, including Amit Jani, Jani Firefox Films, Bharat Shrinath and Akshay Pandey. The actor has requested the court to restrain them from producing, financing, developing, distributing, directing or promoting the film.
According to the petition, Salman Khan contends that the film’s promotional material, particularly its poster, violates his personality rights by using elements associated with his public identity for commercial purposes without his consent. He has argued that such use could adversely affect his reputation and legal interests.
The legal move follows an earlier notice sent by the actor to the filmmakers, demanding an immediate halt to the project’s development and promotion. In that notice, Salman Khan claimed that the film appeared to draw inspiration from the long-running blackbuck hunting case linked to him.
The actor further argued that the film could damage his reputation and potentially influence ongoing judicial proceedings related to the case. His legal team maintained that the matter remains pending before the Rajasthan High Court and that a film based on or resembling the controversy could prejudice public perception and interfere with the administration of justice.
The case stems from allegations that Salman Khan hunted two blackbucks in Kankani village near Jodhpur, Rajasthan, in September 1998 while shooting for the film Hum Saath Saath Hain. A complaint was subsequently filed by members of the Bishnoi community against Salman Khan and his co-stars, including Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Neelam and Tabu.
The Delhi High Court is expected to hear the matter in the coming days.
