Rural Haat Bazaar needed to be organized – Badal

Ranchi: The first general meeting of the recently formed Jharkhand State Horticulture Promotion Society with the objective of promoting horticulture in the state was held in the auditorium of Nepal House.

In the meeting, Agriculture Minister Badal stressed on the need to organize Gramin Haat Bazaar. He said that vegetable vendors will get benefit of this if lighting is arranged in the rural haat market. He said that there is a need to make Haat Bazar a society so that its identity can be established. Secretary, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Co-operative Development Department, Abu Bakr Siddiqui said that there is immense potential for horticulture in the state.

According to the climate of the state, there is a need to focus on agriculture in the area by creating a zero climate zone so that more benefits can reach to the farmers. In the meeting, mainly four agendas regarding the activities of the Jharkhand Horticulture Promotion Society were discussed.

Agriculture Director Nisha Oraon discussed in detail the rules and regulations, executive committee and format of registration of society for the implementation of the Memorandum of association through power point presentation. She said that the aim of the Jharkhand State Horticulture Promotion Society is the development of horticulture. With the aim of promoting the productivity and products of horticulture, the society will activate the farmers at the grass root level.

She said that the scientific methods would be promoted among the farmers and farmers would also be supported for access to the market. State and central schemes can also be operated throughout society. For this, at present, an amount of Rs 5 crore has been given to the Society, which is subordinate to the Directorate of Horticulture. 

The Governing Body of the Society will be headed by Agriculture Minister and Vice President will be the Secretary/Principal Secretary of the Agriculture Department. Apart from this, representatives from institutions like NABARD, ICAR, BAU etc will also be there as members.

The office bearers of ICAR, BAU and other institutions also gave their suggestions in the meeting. It was decided in the meeting that a draft committee would be prepared by the bylaws of the society, in which Deputy CEO GSHPS, and Deputy Director Horticulture- Ranchi, would be nominated members.

At the same time, the committee will include members of the Chairman Horticulture Birsa Agricultural University, including representatives of the Directorate of Agriculture and Finance Department. The committee will prepare the bylaws within a month.
