Ranchi: People in Ranchi are facing long delays and overcrowding at the Aadhaar service centre near Patel Chowk, where residents are lining up from as early as 6 a.m. to update their Aadhaar details. The rush has been steadily increasing as people visit the centre to update mobile numbers, addresses, names and other personal information.
To manage the growing crowd, the centre has reportedly introduced a “slip system.” Under this process, applicants are first given a token slip and asked to return the following day for the actual update process. As a result, many people are spending one day just to secure their turn and another day to complete the work.
Visitors at the centre said the process has become exhausting, especially for those travelling from distant areas. Despite reaching early in the morning, many applicants have to wait for several hours before receiving a slip.
A local resident said, “We have been standing in line since morning just to get a token. After waiting for hours, we were told to return the next day.” Another applicant complained that the lack of adequate facilities and the huge crowd were making the process difficult for common people.
Officials at the Aadhaar centre, however, said the slip system was introduced to streamline the process and reduce the burden of long queues. According to them, distributing slips in advance helps people avoid standing in line for the entire day.
Even so, frustration among residents continues to grow due to the heavy rush and extended waiting time. Many people are now demanding that the administration improve the system and increase the number of Aadhaar update centres in Ranchi to ease the pressure on existing facilities.
