Rapid urbanization is increasing threat to environment: Chief Minister

Ranchi: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has expressed his concern over the damage being caused to the environment due to rapid urbanization. Addressing the people after the inauguration of the Veer Kunwar Singh Park in Harmu he said Jharkhand has been the land of heroes, martyrs, and revolutionaries.

He said that if people will look at the pages of history many heroes and revolutionaries here have sacrificed everything for the country and the state and called upon the people to remember their heroes and martyrs give them respect and work on the path shown by them. He also unveiled the statue of Veer Kunwar Singh, the great hero of the first freedom struggle of 1857, at the newly constructed Veer Kunwar Singh Park in Harmu Housing Colony.

The Chief Minister said that not only his statue would be here but the entire biography of Veer Kunwar Singh would be mentioned so that people who come here would take information about him. This is necessary so that we can inform the coming generation about the contribution of our heroes, martyrs, freedom fighters, and revolutionaries.

Hemant Soren said that he has an old relationship with the Harmu area as he has lived here and is also a voter here. In such a situation he has been seeing the changes taking place here. In this sequence, in the year 2012-13, when he was the Urban Development Minister, a plan was made to equip the small and big grounds here. But after the end of the government, the plan remained incomplete but when his government was formed again he started the work of making this plan a reality.

The Chief Minister said that today there are very few grounds left in the cities so the government is doing the work of arranging and equipping the grounds that are there. In this series, this ground located at Harmu has been developed as a park, so that the people of this area can use it in a better way. He urged the people to play a meaningful role in keeping the parks clean and safe.

The Chief Minister said that the way urbanization is happening today, the threat to the environment is increasing rapidly. Today, cities are becoming concrete jungles and if we are not alert then we will have to face serious consequences.

He urged the people to move forward taking the environment along with them and taking every possible step to protect the environment, because in this lies our well-being. He said that people should at least play their role in keeping the environment safe as a mark of respect for the heroes and martyrs.

He said that the government is particularly serious about environmental protection. In this series, his government has announced giving five units of free electricity for planting a tree in the cities whose purpose is to encourage people towards environmental protection.

Many more decisions will be taken in this direction in the future he said. MLAs Saryu Rai Kamlesh Singh Naveen Jaiswal and Mr. Kumar Jaimangal, Secretary to Chief Minister Vinay Kumar Choubey, Commissioner Ranchi Municipal Corporation Shashi Ranjan and President of Veer Kunwar Singh Vichar Manch Vinay Kumar Singh and others were present on the occasion.
