Ranchi: A nurse and her young daughter were killed in a tragic road accident near Joda Bridge under Kanke police station in Ranchi on Friday morning, after a speeding cement-laden truck rammed into their scooter.
The deceased have been identified as Rashmi Kashyap, an employee at Ranchi Institute of Neuro-Psychiatry and Allied Sciences (Rinpas), and her minor daughter. They were on their way to school when the accident occurred.
Eyewitnesses said the truck hit the scooter from behind, killing both mother and child instantly. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the spot. Police have seized the truck and launched a manhunt for the driver.
The incident sparked public outrage, with locals blocking the busy Kanke Road for hours, demanding strict action against reckless truck drivers and curbs on heavy vehicle movement during school hours. DSP Amar Kumar Pandey confirmed the deaths and assured that assistance will be provided to the family as per government rules.
