Ranchi, Nov 7: Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das announced a loan wavier of Rs 61,63,209 for the Tana Bhagats of the state and said that Mukti Diwas function which is organised by the community every year on August 30 in Bedo would be declared a state event.
In a meeting with representatives of the Tana Bhagats who had come from eight districts of the state at the project building here he also announced that the state government would be providing ‘pucca’ houses to the homeless Tana Bhagats while those who have ‘kuchha’ houses would also be given ‘pucca’ houses for which the district unit presidents of the community would be preparing the list.
Mr Das said that five Tana Bhagats have been nominated in the development authority formed for their welfare. He said that a guest house would also be made for the Tana Bhagats in Ranchi. The Chief Minister said that Tana Bhagats had played a vital role during the freedom struggle movement and the people of the community still live their life on the path shown by Mahatma Gandhi.
He said that despite 67 years of Independence no one cared for them but his government has constituted a separate development authority for their welfare. He also announced that the Tana Bhagats would be provided monthly pension which would be decided by the development authority.
