Police relying on 15-year-old vehicles for law and order duties

Ranchi: While the state government is working towards modernizing Jharkhand Police, officers are still relying on 15-year-old vehicles to maintain law and order.

Currently, Jharkhand Police has 1,196 small four-wheel vehicles that are over 15 years old. Despite this, police personnel continue to use these outdated vehicles for law enforcement duties, as new vehicles have not yet been provided. In the absence of new vehicles, the police have been repairing the old ones to continue their operations.

Out of the total 1,734 four-wheel vehicles in Jharkhand Police’s fleet, 418 are in a state of disrepair, while 1,316 vehicles are operational. Among the operational vehicles, 1,196 are over 15 years old.

The force currently has only 120 new vehicles in working condition. As for motorcycles, Jharkhand Police has 1,397, but 180 of them are out of order.

Maintaining law and order is the responsibility of the police, and they are under pressure to reach the scene of an incident quickly. This is why the state government has been making efforts to modernize police stations and equip the force with more efficient resources. However, the proposal to purchase new vehicles has been pending for quite some time.
