PIL filed in HC over organising Rath Mela in Jaggannathpur

Ranchi: A public interest litigation has been filed in the Jharkhand High Court regarding the organization of Rath Mela in Jaggannathpur of the state capital.

A former treasurer of the Jharkhand High Court, Advocate Association Dheeraj Kumar has filed public interest litigation in the High Court regarding the organization of the Rath Mela. Through this, he has demanded the cancellation of the order issued by Deputy Commissioner Chhavi Ranjan regarding the organization of the Rath Mela.

The petitioner through public interest litigation has pointed that the Odisha government has not issued any order like the Ranchi district administration regarding Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra to be held in Puri. More than five lakh devotees participate in the Rath Yatra there while the Ranchi district administration has banned the organization of the Rath Mela.

Instructions have been issued for a limited number of devotees to participate in the Rath Yatra. On July 1, there is a Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath. This time also Rath Yatra will take place in Jagannathpur temple of Ranchi as per the Corona guidelines but during this time also there will be no fair and shop.

This order was issued recently after Ranchi DC Chhavi Ranjan held a meeting with the officials regarding Jagannath Rath Yatra. DC had said that no fair is allowed in the guidelines issued regarding Corona. Therefore this time too neither a fair nor any kind of shops will be held during the Rath Yatra.

Only a limited number of people will participate in the Rath Yatra. Many people have made temporary constructions to set up shops around the temple premises for the Rath Yatra. In view of this, the DC had directed the SDO to run an anti-encroachment campaign in the vicinity of the fair complex.
