Panchayat elections likely in May-June through ballot paper

Ranchi: Panchayat elections in Jharkhand are likely to be held in May-June. Dates for the Panchayat elections are expected to be announced by April 10 on behalf of the State Election Commission. According to the information received, Panchayat polls will be from the ballot paper instead of EVM.

The State Election Commission has ordered 50,000 ballot boxes from neighboring states. At present, about 52 thousand ballot boxes are available in the state. In the Panchayat elections, 4,345 Mukhiyas, 5,341 Panchayat Samiti members, 536 District Council and Ward members have to be elected. As per the preparation of the State Election Commission, Panchayat elections are likely to be held in one-four phases in different districts. The polls will be held in phases will be in May counting will be in June.

On the basis of the number of security forces available in any district, the number of voters, number of sensitive polling stations, it will be decided in which district the polls will be finalized in which phase.

The Panchayati Raj Department has issued a notification related to holding the Panchayat elections without OBC reservation. The file for elections will be sent for Governor’s consent through the Chief Secretary of the Panchayati Raj Department in one or two days by the Department of Panchayati Raj. After which the dates for Panchayat elections will be held. According to the information, the Panchayat election will be announced before April 10.
