Objections, suggestions invited on draft PESA rules, deadline set for June 10

Ranchi: The Panchayati Raj Department of Jharkhand has released a public notice inviting objections and suggestions on the draft of the PESA (Panchayats Extension to Scheduled Areas) Rules. The aim is to gather feedback from stakeholders before finalizing the framework.

Citizens can review the draft rules available on the department’s official website and submit their objections or suggestions via email or speed post by June 10. This public consultation process is intended to ensure inclusive and transparent policymaking.

To further engage stakeholders, a discussion seminar has been scheduled for May 15, where various groups and individuals will have the opportunity to share their views and recommendations in person.

The objective of the PESA Rules is to strengthen the Panchayati Raj system in Jharkhand’s Scheduled Areas. The rules are expected to improve governance, ensure greater participation of tribal communities, and support sustainable development in these regions.

It is noteworthy that the Governor has recently sought an update from the state government regarding the status of PESA implementation, raising questions about the delay in enacting the law within Jharkhand.
