Ranchi: The National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi, celebrated its 16th Foundation Day on Saturday. Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao, Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court and Chancellor of NUSRL, graced the occasion as Chief Guest.
The event was further honoured by the presence of Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad, Advocate General Rajeev Ranjan, and Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri. Several judges of the Jharkhand High Court, eminent lawyers, and Vice-Chancellors from the Central University of Jharkhand and Sarla Birla University also attended.
Prof. (Dr.) Ashok R. Patil, Vice Chancellor of NUSRL, welcomed the dignitaries and highlighted the university’s journey, achievements, and future aspirations. He emphasized NUSRL’s improved standing in the NIRF rankings and reiterated the aim to position it among the top 10 national law schools. He credited regular guidance from Justice Rao, Justice Prasad, and Advocate General Shri Rajeev Ranjan in the university’s continued growth.
Advocate General Rajeev Ranjan encouraged students to pursue careers in District and Sessions Courts to gain a well-rounded legal experience and praised the leadership of NUSRL.
Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad reflected on the university’s early challenges and lauded the commitment of its faculty and staff. He also highlighted the significant social contributions made through NUSRL’s Legal Aid Cell.
In his keynote address, Chief Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao applauded the university’s efforts in advancing legal education and societal service. He stressed the importance of legal research and expert engagement in tackling contemporary economic challenges, noting the remarkable achievements of NUSRL students in litigation, judiciary, and civil services.
On this occasion, a new 200 MW solar power plant was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, enhancing the university’s total solar power capacity to 300 MW. A new powerhouse was also inaugurated to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply on campus.
Due to the demise of Pope Francis and the national mourning declared, all cultural events were cancelled, and the celebrations were conducted modestly.
An MoU was signed between NUSRL Ranchi and the Central University of Jharkhand during the event, witnessed by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Kshiti Bhushan Das (CUJ) and Prof. (Dr.) Ashok R. Patil (NUSRL).
The ceremony also included the felicitation of 35 students and 13 teams for their achievements at national and international levels. Additionally, 15 students received merit and sports scholarships, and faculty and staff members with over 10 years of service were honored.
