NTPC coal mining achieves its first 100 million metric tonne production

Ranchi: NTPC Limited, India’s leading integrated power utility through its coal mining subsidiary NTPC Mining Limited (NML) has achieved another milestone by crossing a remarkable milestone of 100 MMT coal production on 25 February 2024.

NTPC Mining Limited crossed the 100 MMT mark in coal production on 25 February 2024 by producing 100.04 MMT of coal since the commencement of coal production from its first coal mine, Pakri Barwadih on 1 January 2017.

The first 50 MMT in coal production was achieved in 1995 days on 19 June 2022, but the next 50 MMT in coal production has been achieved in only 617 days.

To achieve sustained growth in coal production, NTPC has implemented several strategies and technologies.

These include the adoption of stringent safety measures, better mine planning, equipment automation, workforce training and implementation of continuous monitoring and analysis systems.

Presently, NTPC Mining Limited has five operational captive coal mines, i.e. Pakri Barwadih, Chatti Bariatu and Kerandari coal mines in Jharkhand, Dulanga Coal Mine in Odisha and Talaipalli Coal Mine in Chhattisgarh.

This excellent performance contributes to the fuel security of NTPC.

It reflects NTPC Mining’s continued commitment towards increasing coal production from its captive mines and ensuring efficient supply to meet the energy needs of the country.
