NSUI flags ‘backdoor appointments’ at SPM University

Ranchi: The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) has alleged large-scale irregularities and corruption in the appointment of contractual teachers at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University’s School of Management Studies.

NSUI State Vice President Aman Ahmad sent a formal complaint to the President, Prime Minister, Governor, and UGC Secretary, accusing the university’s Vice Chancellor and verification committee of manipulating the recruitment process to favour select candidates.

Ahmad claimed the university had previously appointed an ineligible candidate, Vikrant Kumar Ravi, who was later removed after NSUI presented evidence. Despite that, he says, irregularities continue.

The key issue, according to NSUI, lies in Advertisement No. DPSMU/G/858/23 (dated 11.12.2023), which violates UGC norms and Jharkhand government resolutions mandating NET or PhD qualifications for management faculty. Ahmad alleged that candidates like Rajeev Kumar, Surabhi Kachhap, and Riya Bhagat were selected despite lacking these credentials.

Calling it an attack on academic integrity, NSUI demanded the cancellation of the current recruitment process, disciplinary action against those involved, and the issuance of a fresh advertisement aligned with official regulations. The students’ body also warned that it would take legal action if necessary.
