Dhanbad: In view of Durga Puja, the corporation has once again started a campaign against encroachment. On Tuesday, a campaign was conducted in Hirapur and surrounding areas of the city. More than 20 kiosks, carts and fast food counters were seized. During the campaign, a fine of Rs 2500 was also imposed on a shoe shop operating in a tent.
The campaign was started from 5 am under the leadership of Assistant Municipal Commissioner Santoshni Murmu. Apart from Santoshni Murmu, Food Inspector Anil Kumar, Junior Engineer Mahesh Bhagat, Tax Collector Ramkumar Sharma and others were involved in the campaign. Most of the kiosks, carts and counters that were seized on Monday were closed. Of these, 10 to 12 such kiosks and carts were seized, which were left on the roadside only for the purpose of encroachment.
There was a stir among the footpath shopkeepers due to the sudden launch of the campaign by the Corporation. Some shopkeepers started taking out goods from their shops while some shopkeepers requested the Assistant Municipal Commissioner not to run the campaign citing Durga Puja, but the Assistant Municipal Commissioner refused. After this, the shopkeepers appealed to give three days’ time to remove the goods from the shops. This was accepted by the Assistant Municipal Commissioner and the Food Inspector was directed to make the announcement.
