Ranchi: Paulus Surin, a two-time MLA from JMM, and Naxalite Jetha Kachhap have been sentenced to life imprisonment. This punishment was given by Justice Dinesh Kumar of MP-MLA Court on Wednesday. Apart from Paulus Surin, Naxalite Jetha Kachhap, Krishna Mahato, three women were facing trial in this murder case.
PLFI supremo Dinesh Gope is also facing trial in the same case. During the entire hearing, the prosecution presented 12 witnesses while the defense presented one witness. An FIR was registered in Karra police station under case number 27/2013 regarding the murder incident. The hearing in the murder case was going on in the MP-MLA court.
On April 7, the court gave its verdict after hearing. The court announced the punishment. In the hearing on April 7, former JMM MLA from Torpa Paulus Surin and Naxalite Jetha Kachhap were convicted. Four people, including three women facing trial in this case, have been acquitted due to lack of sufficient evidence. Actually the whole matter is of the year 2013. In Khunti-Torpa, contractor Bhushan Singh was accused of rape by a woman.
The police investigated this allegation but the case turned out to be fake. Because of this the police stopped the investigation. The then Torpa MLA Paulus Surin had staged a protest in Karra regarding this issue. He asked to arrest contractor Bhushan Singh.
Meanwhile, on May 27, 2013, contractors Bhushan Singh and Ram Govind Singh, who were playing cards in Trila village of Karra, were attacked and killed by Naxalites with AK-47. PLFI commander Jetha Kachhap’s name came up in this massacre. The police started investigating this murder. Naxalite commander Jetha Kachhap was also arrested. He was interrogated for four years. During this time, on June 20, 2017, he said in his statement that MLA Paulus Surin has a hand in the contractor murder case. Only after this the lower court had issued an arrest warrant against Paul.
Paulus Surin, who has been JMM MLA from Torpa. In some case he was lodged in Simdega jail. This was during the 2009 elections. At this time JMM had made Paul its candidate. Then he won the election while in jail. However, regarding the victory of this election, it was said that he had won because of PLFI. After this again in 2014 he became MLA from JMM.
For the third time in 2019, when JMM did not give him the ticket, he contested the elections as an independent. But this time they were defeated.
