Ranchi: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren led the state in paying tributes to late Education Minister Jaggarnath Mahto at the Jharkhand Vidhansabha. Earlier the mortal remains of the minister reached early morning at the Ranchi Airport from Chennai via Kolkata.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren himself was at the airport to receive the body to which he also extended his shoulder and placed it on the specially decorated vehicle. Accompanied by a convoy the mortal remains reached at the Jharkhand Vidhan Sabha were a guard of honour was given by the jawans of the Jharkhand Armed Police and leaders cutting across party lines gave their tributes to the minister who was popularly known as Jaggarnath Da.
Apart from Chief Minister Hemant Soren Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Ravindra Nath Mahto, Union Minister Annapurna Devi, Cabinet Ministers of Jharkhand government including Aalamgir Aalam, Satyanand Buokta, Hafizul Hassan, Mithlesh Thakur, Banna Gupta, and Badal were also present on the occasion.
Among other key personalities the legislature wing leader of BJP Babulal Marandi Independent MLA Saryu Senior JMM MLA Dr Stephen Marandi and many Congress and JMM MLAs also paid their tributes. Prominent officials of the state government including Chief Secretary Sukhdev Singh DGP Ajay Kumar Singh and other police and administrative officials also paid their final tributes to the leader.
Later the body was taken to the camp office of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha where leaders and party workers also paid their tributes to Jaggarnath Mahto. From the part office the mortal remains of the education minister were taken in a convoy of vehicles to his ancestral village of Simarkuli in Alargo panchayat in Bhandaridah of Bermo block in Bokaro district where his cremation took place on the banks of Damodar river with full state honours.
The minister had passed away at MGM Hospital in Chennai on Thursday after multiple organ failure. He underwent a lung transplant in 2020.
