More than 68 pc average voter turn out in bypolls for Silli and Gomia

Bokaro/Ranchi May 28: More than 68 pc average voter turn out was recorded in the bypolls to the Gomia and Silli Seat of the Jharkhand Assembly.

Officials at the state chief electoral officer said that polling had concluded peacefully at both the seats and no untoward incident was reported. They said that more than 68 pc eleigibe voters had on an average cast their votes for these two seats.
They said that the polling per centage in Gomia was around 62 percent while that in Silli was 75.50 per cent. With the end of the voting people have sealed the fate of candidates who are contesting from these two seats prominent being And I supremo Sudesh Kumar Mahto who is fighting from Silli against Seem a Mahto of the JMM while in Gomia it was a three way battle between BJP’s Madhavlal Singh Lambodar Mahto of the AJSU and Babita Devi of the JMM.

The bypolls for the seats were necessitated as JMM MLAs from both seats Amit Mahto from Silli and Yogendra Prasad Mahto from Gomia lost their membership of the state assembly after they were convicted in separate cases by different courts of Ranchi and Ramgarh district respectively.

Despite being part of the NDA Ajsu announced its candidates for Gomia and Silli. BMP being the senior partner decided to support Sudesh Mahto in Silli but announced the candidature of Madhav Lal Singh in Gomia. On the other hand JMM fielded the wives of its former MLAs in both the seats which were supported by the opposition parties including the Congress JVM RJD and the Left parties.
Counting of the votes takes place on May 31.
