Giridih: Ultras belonging to the CPI Maoists continued spreading their menace in the Giridih district of Jharkhand as they damaged a bridge on the Barakar river by executing a blast. Police on Sunday said that the bridge is located at Bargarh and connects Dumri block with Giridih district. Police sources said that bridge is a newly constructed one but the contractor has not handed over the bridge to the concerned department, moreover, the construction of the approach road was on.
Apart from that the Maoists also destroyed a transformer installed under the Muffasil Police Station area for water supply near Dukhharan Nath Mandir. They also thrashed two workers who were involved in the construction work of the water tank.
Police said that in the wee hours of the day around 20 armed Maoists reached the spot and destroyed the transformer by executing a blast. At both the spots, the Maoists left pamphlets demanding that better healthcare facilities should be provided in jail to their top leaders Kisan Da and his wife Sheila Marandi. To protest against the arrest of their top leaders the Maoists are observing Pratirodh Diwas from January 21-26 while on January 27 they have called for a Jharkhand- Bihar bandh.
