Mumbai: Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar has recalled an emotional moment from the Miss World finals when she stepped in to help Miss South Africa, Adè van Heerden, just hours before eventually winning the crown herself.
In a recent YouTube video, where she recreated her Miss World pageant makeup look, Manushi revealed that Adè faced a wardrobe crisis on the day of the finale. According to her, Miss South Africa’s gown was damaged during rehearsals, and the backup outfit also failed when its zipper broke on the morning of the final event.
Recalling the tense moments, Manushi said that costume rehearsals are held a night before the finale to ensure perfect timing and ease of movement on stage. However, Adè’s primary gown tore unexpectedly, creating immense stress. Matters worsened the next morning when her second outfit became unusable.
Seeing her fellow contestant visibly distressed, Manushi offered one of her own gowns. Fortunately, Adè fit into the outfit perfectly, and Manushi said it looked as though the gown had been tailor-made for her.
While assisting Adè with the fitting, Manushi found herself short on time and was unable to do her own makeup before leaving for the venue. She shared that she ended up doing her makeup on the bus en route to the finals, a moment she remembers with pride.
Despite the chaos and last-minute challenges, Manushi went on to win the Miss World title, a victory that brought immense pride to the country.
