Male employees to get paternity leave in Jharkhand

Ranchi: The state government has approved the draft of Jharkhand Service Code 2000. Under this, along with female employees, male employees will also get paternity leave. The state government has taken this decision in the light of the recommendations of the Sixth Central Pay Commission.

In this format, the state government has increased the maximum limit of maternity leave for female government employees and has made a provision for paternity leave for male employees. Under paternity leave, this facility will be provided to single male parents, including unmarried, widower or divorced.

Child care leave will be considered equivalent to earned leave and will be granted in the same manner. A provision of a total of 730 days of “child care leave” has been made for the women employees of the Central Government to take care of two minor children during the entire service period.

The above facility has also been provided to single male employees by the order of the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Department of Personnel and Training. During this leave, the female single male employee will receive the leave salary which he was receiving immediately before proceeding on leave. Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted holidays falling during the leave will also be included in the child care leave.

Female employees with minor children (below the age of 18 years) are entitled to two years of child care leave, leave for the purpose of rearing or caring for up to two children only, during their entire service period, for their examination, illness, etc. Can be given by the competent authority approving.

The above age limit will not be applied in the case of disabled children. Child care leave cannot be claimed as a right. Under no circumstances will any employee proceed on this leave without prior permission and proper sanction of the sanctioning authority. Without proper sanction, no employee shall proceed on this leave.

Child Care Leave shall be admissible only for two surviving children under the age of 18 years. Child Care Leave shall not be granted more than three times during a calendar year. It will be granted, which will not be granted for less than 15 days each time. For any other leave sought in the order of child care leave, the leave will be granted only if there is a health certificate from the government doctor. The concerned woman, single man. Child care leave can be granted despite accrued leave being due in the employee’s leave account.
