Last farewell to Cardinal Telesphore P. Toppo with state honours, Governor and CM paid tribute

Ranchi:  Cardinal Telesphore, the fourth archbishop of St. Mary’s Basilica, is buried in Ladyani Bedi. Many people have joined to bid their last farewell to the Bishop. 

Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan visited St. Maria’s Church on Dr. Kamil Bulke Path, Ranchi and paid homage to Cardinal Telesphore P. Toppo by placing a wreath on his mortal remains of him. Health Minister Banna Gupta also bid farewell to Cardinal Telesphore. His last rites are being performed with state honours. Cardinal Telesphore P. Toppo wished that he be buried here, under the statue of Teresa.

When Saint Mary’s Church was built, a separate place was made for women. Christian women used to sit on the left side of the church, hence that place is called Ladyani Bedi till today. Earlier, Bishop Vanhook SJ on 30 April 1933, Bishop Nicholas Kujur on 24 July 1960 and Archbishop Piyush Kerketta on 21 May 1993 have been buried in St. Mary’s Basilica. Those who served a particular church are considered eligible for burial.

Archbishop Cardinal Telesphore P. Toppo has always been serving St. Mary’s Basilica, which is why he is getting a place here. The mortal remains will be kept for darshan in the cathedral from 6:00 am to 12:00 noon. Mass will be offered in his honor at Loyala Ground from 1:00 pm onwards. After this, burial will take place in Saint Mary’s Cathedral.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren paid an emotional tribute to Cardinal Telesphore P. Toppo. Chief Minister Hemant Soren today reached Loyola Maidan at Dr. Kamil Bulke Path, Ranchi and paid a heartfelt tribute to Cardinal Telesphore P. Toppo by placing a wreath on his mortal remains. The Chief Minister prayed to God to grant peace to the departed soul and give strength to the bereaved people to bear this difficult time of grief.
