Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court on Friday expressed its deep anguish over the charge sheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with the killing of Additional district and sessions judge Uttam Anand and went on to comment that the agency was working like Babus working in the Secretariat.
The court of Chief Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan and Justice SN Prasad while hearing the case that it was unfortunate that without mentioning the reason and purpose of the murder the agency has filed the charge sheet and such conduct was not expected. Chief Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan said that despite being unwell he was hearing the case as the issue was a serious one and the entire nation has a keen eye on this case. He said that Supreme Court is keeping a watch on this case while High Court is monitoring the case but the same seriousness is missing in the probe of CBI.
The Court asked as to why it was not informed in advance before the filing of the charge sheet as a monitor of the probe by the High Court is not for just namesake. The Court said that the charge sheet was faulty and warned the CBI that if in the next hearing the probe will not be satisfactory then it will ask the CBI Director to appear before it. The CBI had filed the charge sheet on October 20 so that the two culprits arrested in this case, Lakhan Verma and Rahul Verma cannot get bail.
The CBI has taken the two culprits on remand on three occasions. The CBI had informed the Court that Justice Uttam Anand has been murdered and some more people are likely to be involved however the case is being investigated from all possible angles. The CBI in due course of investigation has also questioned more than half a dozen criminals lodged at Hotwar jail in Ranchi.
