JMM to celebrate November 11 as ‘Dharma Samman, Pahchan and Adhikar Diwas’

Ranchi: Tribals in Jharkhand and other parts of the country will observe November 11 as ‘Dharma Samman, Pahchan and Adhikar Diwas’.

Addressing a press conference, senior JMM leader Supriyo Bhattacharya said the Jharkhand Reservation in Vacancies in Posts and Services (Amendment) Bill, 2022’ and ‘Jharkhand Bill, 2022 to extend the definition of local persons and the consequent sociocultural and other benefits to such local persons’ were passed by the state assembly unopposed.

Explaining further Bhattacharya said November 11 is an auspicious day for tribal people as on the same CNT Act enforced in 1908 during colonial rule and then a proposal for the Sarna religion code in the census form was passed by the Jharkhand assembly in 2021.

He said it was the result of almost 100 years’ effort of tribal and locals that two bills got passed before explaining how the struggle started in 1928 under the leadership of Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda.

Talking about the bill that provides 27 reservations to OBCs in Jharkhand he said it is in reply to ‘traitors’ like Sudesh Mahto and Babulal Marandi who in 2001 reduced the reservation of OBC to 14 percent from 27 percent.

Talking about ‘Jharkhand Bill, 2022 to extend the definition of local persons and the consequent socio-cultural and other benefits to such local persons’, Bhattacharya said it is the highest honour to the struggle of Guru Ji Bhattacharya said with the passage of a bill that identifies locals on the basis of land survey records prepared in 1932 or before, it will be difficult for the BJP to survive which despite having been in power four times did nothing for tribals and locals. Thus he advised locals and tribes associated with the BJP to leave their party and join the JMM.

Bhattacharya said the BJP can make a tribal woman President of India for political reasons but cannot digest a tribal CM. On the occasion, he alleged the BJP of using constitutional bodies to settle political rivalry. He presented examples of legal development taking place in the Bombay High Court and the Supreme Court to support his statement.

He also urged Arjun Munda in the capacity of Union tribal affairs minister besides Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to ensure place for the bills passed today in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution in the winter session. Apart from this, he also demanded the inclusion of the local and tribal languages of Jharkhand in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
