JMM accuses BJP of plotting to turn Santhal Pargana into another Manipur

Ranchi: In a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya alleged that the violence in Bhognadih on June 30 was a pre-planned conspiracy aimed at destabilising Santhal Pargana and turning it into “another Manipur.”

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Bhattacharya claimed that the entire incident was orchestrated under a deliberate political strategy, with key figures from the BJP, including the sitting MP from Godda, allegedly playing direct roles. He also hinted that the script was “written at Deendayal Mart” and executed by BJP-backed elements.

“This was not a spontaneous incident. It was a scripted act with a clear blueprint to provoke unrest in a tribal region,” he said.

Bhattacharya expressed deep concern over reports of BJP workers carrying illegal weapons to a government-sponsored event commemorating Hul Diwas, warning that such actions could have endangered the lives of ministers and other dignitaries present, including former Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

“This is a state event, not a political rally. No political outfit is allowed to hoist flags or hold parallel programmes during official state functions,” he added, drawing comparisons with national events like Republic Day or Gandhi Jayanti, where political interference is prohibited.

He warned that BJP is trying to instigate conflict in Jharkhand — whether communal, caste-based, or intra-tribal — and called for a thorough investigation into all actors involved. “Those who are trying to place Santhal Pargana on a powder keg will be firmly dealt with,” he said.

Reacting to BJP’s claims that the current government is behaving more oppressively than the British, Bhattacharya dismissed the charge and said, “No other state offers as much democratic space to the BJP as Jharkhand does.”

On the health of Dishom Guru Shibu Soren, Bhattacharya shared that his condition has slightly improved and expressed hope that he will recover soon to once again guide the party.

On the upcoming visit of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to Ranchi, he pointed out that infrastructure projects like flyovers at Kantatoli and Siramtoli were taken up by the state government after being neglected during Raghubar Das’s tenure. “This is the initiative of Hemant Soren’s government, not a BJP gift,” he clarified.

Bhattacharya concluded with a strong warning to BJP:

“We will not allow Jharkhand to become Manipur. Any attempt to destroy the state’s peace will be crushed decisively.”
