Ranchi, April 21 : Jharkhand on Friday issued a notification to ban use of beacon lights in the wake of the central government deciding to end their use on official vehicles.
“Under rule 108 of the Central Motor Vehicle Law 1989 and para A, B, C of notification number 490 of Transport department dated 11.04.2016, it is said that VIP lights (red/blue) on all government vehicles taking persons/officers stands cancelled,” says the notification issued by the Transport Department on Friday.
Now no official vehicles will use red or blue beacon lights. These lights have been banned with immediate effect, the notification said.
Now only three category of vehicles will use the beacon lights, it added.
As per the notification, the flasher-equipped blue light on the mast of the fire-brigade on duty in its jurisdiction, PCR vans/ pilot vehicles (multi-coloured blue, white and red light) and blinker-equipped red light with violet glass on ambulance, will remain as usual.
Jharkhand Chief Minister was already not using the beacon lights on official vehicle. Governor Draupdi Mumru followed the suit after central govt decided to end the VIP light culture.
