Jharkhand headmaster suspended after viral video of dance at school farewell event

Garhwa- Disciplinary action has been initiated by the Jharkhand Education Department after a video from a farewell programme at a government school in Garhwa district went viral online, allegedly showing objectionable songs and inappropriate dancing on campus.

After conducting a preliminary probe, authorities suspended the in-charge headmaster of the Middle School in Sohabaria village under Meral block. Termination proceedings have also been started against two assistant teachers accused of misconduct.

District Education Officer Kaiser Raza said the action followed an examination of the viral video, which shows DJ music being played during a farewell ceremony for Class 8 students.

The footage reportedly shows individuals dancing to objectionable songs, with some teachers also participating and allegedly behaving inappropriately with female students.

Taking serious note of the incident, the department suspended headmaster Kundan Kumar Ranjan under provisions of the Jharkhand Government Servants Rules, 2016.

During his suspension, Ranjan will report to the office of the Area Education Officer in Garhwa and will be required to register daily biometric attendance to receive a subsistence allowance.

Meanwhile, the district education department has also initiated proceedings to terminate assistant teachers Purushottam Pandit and Subeshwar Ram under the Jharkhand Assistant Teacher Service Conditions Rules, 2021 for alleged serious indiscipline.

Officials said the farewell event for Class 8 students featured a DJ system inside the school premises. Clips from the event later spread widely on social media, triggering criticism and prompting authorities to launch an inquiry.

The district administration has started a detailed investigation, and further action may follow depending on the outcome of the probe.
