Ranchi: The renovation work of Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium located at Kachari Road has been completed. On the occasion of the Foundation Day of Jharkhand, it was opened for the common people after the instructions of CM Hemant Soren. This stadium has been renovated at a cost of Rs 4.53 crore. A tender was floated for the renovation of the stadium in 2021. After about 3 years, it was opened to the general public on 16 November 2023.
Deputy Administrator of Ranchi Municipal Corporation Kunwar Singh Pahan said that at present guards have been kept at the gate of the stadium and entry is free. In a few days, a membership card will be made for entry into the stadium, which will be digital. This card will be made free of cost. The basic purpose of making this card is to know which person is entering when. With this card, timings for courts like tennis and basketball will also be fixed.
He said that people will feel connected to this stadium. Kunwar Singh Pahan said that CCTVs are also being installed in the stadium premises. Maintenance of the stadium will be quite challenging. For this, people’s support will be needed.
The Deputy Administrator said that a football competition will also be organized on January 3, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Jaipal Singh Munda. There is mostly open space and greenery everywhere in the stadium.
Fountains have been constructed in the stadium. Pathways have been built around the stadium so that people can take morning walks. Flood lights have also been installed here, so that people can play even at night.
A mini football field has been built in the stadium. Parking facilities have also been provided around the stadium. Apart from this, lawn tennis and basketball courts have also been built. A gallery with a capacity of 200 has also been constructed in the ground, in which people will be able to sit and watch the match. There is also a play area for children to play, where swings and sliders have been installed. Besides, an open gym has also been constructed. Night markets will be set up in the parking area of the stadium, which will have about 40 shops which will remain open till 10 pm. There will be mostly food vans in it.
The most special thing about the stadium is that in front of the entry point of the ground, there is a life-size statue of Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda, the captain of the hockey team who won the gold medal for India in the Olympics in the year 1928. Sports related paintings have been done on the walls of the ground. Besides, a photo gallery has also been constructed in the ground, in which pictures of the players have been engraved.
