IPL Talent Scouts Eye Jharkhand’s Rising Stars at State T20 League

Ranchi: The inaugural Jharkhand T20 Cricket League has received a major boost with talent scouts from Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) arriving in Ranchi to identify promising cricketers for future opportunities.

Former India wicketkeeper-batter Naman Ojha, representing Mumbai Indians, and seasoned domestic cricketer Gokul Sharma, scouting for RCB, were present at the JSCA International Stadium Complex to closely monitor the performances of emerging players. Their presence highlights the growing reputation of the tournament as a platform for discovering future IPL talent.

The league, which was launched in the presence of World Cup-winning captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, has quickly gained popularity among cricket fans and attracted significant corporate backing. It has also become an important stage for showcasing the next generation of cricketers from Jharkhand.

Following Jharkhand’s historic triumph in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which played a role in opener Ishan Kishan returning to the national setup, several young talents have caught the attention of scouts. Players such as Sharandeep Singh, Rajandeep Singh, Prince Anurag Murmu and Suprieyo Chakraborty have emerged as standout performers during the competition.

Speaking about the tournament, Naman Ojha praised both the organisation and the quality of cricket on display. He said the wickets have been excellent and noted that Jharkhand possesses a vast pool of talented players eager to take the next step in their careers.

RCB scout Gokul Sharma said the franchise had started its talent hunt early as it seeks to strengthen its domestic player base. He also credited former India cricketers Saurabh Tiwary and Shahbaz Nadeem for their continued contribution to the development of cricket in the state.

For the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA), the arrival of IPL scouts is a strong endorsement of the league’s vision. JSCA President Ajay Nath Shah Deo described the tournament as a landmark initiative aimed at providing local players with a professional platform to showcase their skills and pursue higher levels of the sport.

JSCA Secretary Saurabh Tiwary said the league offers young cricketers a rare opportunity to perform directly in front of decision-makers from leading IPL franchises. According to him, such exposure can significantly speed up a player’s journey towards earning franchise trials and professional contracts.

Echoing the sentiment, Shahbaz Nadeem said the league is strengthening Jharkhand’s cricket ecosystem by combining competitive cricket with valuable scouting opportunities. He added that the support of MS Dhoni and the presence of IPL talent scouts ensure that deserving grassroots players are being noticed at the right stage of their careers.
