IMD issues heat waves alert for Jharkhand, light rains predicted from Wednesday onwards

Ranchi: The local Meteorological Centre has issued a heat wave alert in Jharkhand with the possibility of Loo in several districts.

Weathermen said severe weather condition was prevailing in Jharkhand with the day’s reading touching as high as 44 degree Celsius in Kolhan and several other isolated pickets of the state. 

The discomfort index was also found to be very high with several places including Jamshedpur, Deoghar, Daltonganj and Garhwa notching several points above normal. No significant synoptic system prevails over the state of Jharkhand. Dry weather prevailed over Jharkhand during the past 24- hours.

The highest maximum temperature of 45 was recorded at Daltonganj while Jamshedpur recorded 44.2 degrees.

A climate expert said heat waves would prevail over North-Western and South-eastern parts of the state. Thunderstorm and Lightning accompanied by strong surface wind (speed: 30-40 kmph) is also likely to occur at isolated places over eastern parts of the state.

Meanwhile, IMD issued an appeal asking people not to venture out of their homes in the afternoon so as to avoid sunstroke.
