Honour restored of statue of Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda

Ranchi: Following the instructions of Chief Minister Hemant Soren the damaged statue of Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda has been repaired.

DC Ranchi informed the Chief Minister that the work of upkeep of the statue of Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda has been completed. He said that all the concerned officials have been directed that incase in future any complaint is received then they should accord more importance to it.

Through a video the Chief Minister was informed that the statue of Jaipal Singh Stadium had broken down after which the Chief Minister had instructed the Ranchi DC to undertake its repair.

On Sunday is the birth anniversary of Jaipal Singh Munda. He was the captain of the men’s hockey team which won the Olympic gold and was also a member of the constitution assembly and laid the foundation stone for separate Jharkhand statehood movement.

In his name the state government has started a scholarship scheme under which every year 10 ST students will be able to study in prestigious universities like Cambridge and Oxford.

Jaipal Singh Munda was the first tribal from Jharkhand who had studied in abroad and was selected for ICS. However his training in ICS was impacted as he  was the captain of hockey team which went to Amsterdam Olympic in 1928. After returning from ICS he was asked to undertake his training which he declined.
