Holi celebrated with traditional fervour in Jharkhand

Ranchi: After two years of muted celebrations due to Covid-19, Holi was celebrated with traditional fervour in Jharkhand with people coming out in large numbers as fears of the pandemic receded. The festival of colours was celebrated with gaiety at apartment complexes and other residential localities in the capital and elsewhere in the state on both Friday and Saturday.

People gathered in large numbers and sprayed colours mixed with water, and distributed sweets. ‘Holika Dahan’ ritual (symbolic burning of Holika, a demoness and sister of Hiranyakashipa) was held on Thursday night Holika Dahan symbolises the victory of good over evil while a number of public representatives took part in the festivities.

Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Bais, Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Union Minister Arjun Munda, Cabinet Ministers of the Jharkhand Government, Leader of Legislature wing of BJPBabulal Marandi and others also extended their best wishes and greetings to the people.

The Chief Minister in his message said that Holi festival was a symbol of social harmony, unity and brotherhood. He also prayed for peace and prosperity of the people of Jharkhand.

The Chief Minister also offered Gulaal to his father and JMM supremo Shibu Soren and mother Rupi Soren and took their blessings on the day while later he enjoyed the celebrations with other members of the family.
