Ranchi: Governor Ramesh Bais has directed the State government to initiate action for the cancellation of recognition of those private universities which are not following the UGC norms. Justifying the step in the interest of students he gave the direction with proper justification while holding a review meeting with officials of the higher and technical education department at Raj Bhavan.
The additional chief secretary of the department K K Khandelwal, besides Governor’s principal secretary Nitin Madan Kulkarni and other senior officers of the department, were present on the occasion.
The Governor expressed his displeasure at the infrastructure of the private universities saying it was found that the condition of private universities is not good and as they do not follow the norms set by the government. Their infrastructure is also not up to the mark and does not have sufficient faculty to impart proper education, the governor observed, expressing his displeasure.
The Governor asked the officials that before granting recognition as a private university, it should be ensured that adequate land, building and infrastructure are available with it.
During the meeting, the governor was apprised that the file for the construction of the Statute of Jharkhand Technical University is in the Personnel Department and it will be framed soon. The Governor, while reviewing the transfer of the administrative building of Nilamber- Pitamber University, said that the building should be transferred to the university soon.
While reviewing the work of Jharkhand Technical University, the governor directed for repairing of the building in the campus of Jharkhand Technical University to hand over to Jharkhand Open University within 3-4 months to ensure its smooth functioning from there.
