Government to present its side in SC over increasing reservation to more than 50 percent: Hemant Soren

Ranchi: The state government is planning to take a big decision over the issue of reservation.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren during the ongoing budget session of the Jharkhand assembly on Friday announced in the house that the state government will present its side before the Supreme Court on the issue of increasing reservation by more than 50 percent in the state.

The apex court of the country has asked all the state governments to present their opinion before the court over increasing the reservation to more than 50 percent.

The Chief Minister said that his government was in the favour of increasing the reservation to more than fifty percent. He said that over the issue of Maratha reservation the Supreme Court has asked all the state governments to present their opinions over the issue and in this the Jharkhand government too will present it side before the Supreme Court. On the issue of increasing the reservation by more than 50 per cent he said that some states had increased the reservation but they were rejected by the supreme court.

However he said that some states have also approached the supreme court over increasing the reservation and the matter was subjudice. He said that in this issue the Supreme Court has taken to suo moto cognizance and has sought opinion of all the states over increasing the reservation.
