Gautam Adani Reviews Rs 43,000 Crore Power Projects in Jharkhand, Bihar

Ahmedabad: Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, on Sunday reviewed the Group’s major power initiatives in eastern India, underscoring its expanding footprint in the region.

During a visit to Godda in Jharkhand, he inspected the 1,600 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power plant, developed at an investment exceeding Rs 16,000 crore. Located in a tribal-dominated area, the project has generated thousands of direct and indirect jobs and enhanced rail connectivity. The plant supplies electricity exclusively to Bangladesh under a long-term cross-border agreement.

Mr. Adani also travelled to Bihar, where the Group plans a 2,400 MW ultra-supercritical power project at Pirpainti near Bhagalpur. With an estimated investment of over Rs 27,000 crore, the project is expected to be completed in the next four to five years and aims to meet the state’s rising industrial and urban power demand.

With these developments, the Adani Group has become one of the largest private infrastructure investors in Jharkhand and Bihar—states rich in mineral resources but historically limited in large-scale industrial investment.

At the Godda facility, Mr. Adani interacted with engineers, technicians, and frontline workers, praising their contribution, and met tribal women from nearby communities, highlighting what he described as a people-first approach to expansion.

Earlier in the day, he offered prayers at the Baba Baidyanath Temple in Deoghar, calling the visit the fulfilment of a long-held personal wish. Referring to the philosophy of “Seva hi Sadhana Hai” (service itself is devotion), he shared reflections from the visit on X, noting the enduring vibrancy of centuries-old faith and the symbolism of strength, restraint, and resolve associated with Mahadev.

In recent years, the Adani Group has also been associated with major spiritual and public events, including the Maha Kumbh Mela and the Jagannath Rath Yatra.
