Gangster’s mom seeks CBI probe into encounter from HC

Ranchi: The mother of gangster Aman Sahu, Kiran Devi, has filed a petition in the Jharkhand High Court, seeking a CBI investigation into the alleged encounter of her son by the police on March 11 in Palamu.

In her petition, Kiran Devi has made the Ministry of Home Affairs, CBI Director, Jharkhand Home Secretary, DGP, SSP Ranchi, and other ATS officials parties to the case. She has expressed suspicion that the police may have conspired to kill her son under the guise of an encounter.

Aman Sahu was previously shifted from Chaibasa Jail to Raipur last year in October under heavy police escort, with a 75-member team. However, Kiran Devi claims that only a 12-member ATS team was assigned when he was shifted from Raipur to Ranchi.

After the post-mortem, photos of the deceased gangster were handed over to his family, which were also attached to the petition. Kiran Devi’s lawyer, Hemant Kumar Shikharwar, stated that the injuries on Aman Sahu’s body indicate a planned, torturous murder, rather than a shootout during an encounter.

Shikharwar further mentioned that Pramod Kumar Singh, who led the ATS team, had been involved in previous fake encounters and had faced charges for brutality against both police and innocent civilians. While leading the ATS team, Singh reportedly claimed that Aman’s gang had ambushed him, prompting a retaliatory firing in which Aman was shot while attempting to flee.

Kiran Devi also questioned the police’s claim that Aman led a 500-member gang, yet only six of his associates tried to rescue him. Aman Sahu had previously filed a petition in front of the Special Judge, CBI Raipur, expressing fears of a fake encounter leading to his death, but no action was taken.

Shikharwar added that Aman had been acquitted in 24 cases, and the petitioner had appealed against the two cases where he had been convicted.
