Ranchi: Former MLA and Khatiani Jharkhandi Party leader Amit Mahato has got bail from the Supreme Court. Amit Mahato’s bail petition was heard in the bench of Supreme Court judges Justice RS Bopanna and Justice Narasimhan. Senior advocate Sanjeev Kumar argued on behalf of Amit Mahato.
In 2018, Ranchi Civil Court sentenced Amit Mahato to two years imprisonment in the case of assault on Sonahatu CO. After which his assembly membership ended. Amit Mahato had filed an appeal in the Jharkhand High Court against the order of the Civil Court.
The High Court had reduced the lower court’s decision and imposed a sentence of one year. After which Amit Mahato surrendered in August 2023. Amit Mahato had filed a criminal SLP in the Supreme Court. A hearing was held and the court granted him bail.
