Former Minister Yogendra Sao along with wife acquitted in a mining obstruction case

Ranchi: Former minister and Congress leader Yogendra Sao and his wife Nirmala Devi got a big relief from the Ranchi Civil Court as it acquitted them in a case of obstructing mining work and violating section 144. The court pronounced the acquittal order after the prosecution failed to produce sufficient evidence before the court to prove its charge.

The incident happened on September 16, 2006, when Sao and Devi along with their supporters were staging ‘Satyagraha’ against the land acquisition being done by NTPC in Hazaribagh district for mining purposes. During that time, the road leading to the mining site of NTPC was deliberately blocked by parking a private vehicle.

The mining work had got disrupted and an FIR was registered against Sao and Devi at the Barkagaon police station.
