For want of commission farmers forced to commit suicide in state: Hemant

Ranchi: Leader of the Opposition and JMM’s acting President Hemant Soren today said that suicide by a farmer in Patratu village of Chanho block has brought out into the open the failures of the state government.

Farmer Lakhan Mahto on Saturday committed suicide by jumping into his own well which was built under Mnrega but its payment was not released. Mr Soren said that the state government which talks about zero tolerance was forcing farmers to commits suicide for the want of commission. He said that while on one hand due to the negligence of the state government the suicide rate among the farmers has increased on the other hand the government was busy in the formation of the Kamal Clubs.

He said that to hide its failures the state government has used a similar ploy as those in case of hunger deaths where victims were claimed to have died due to different ailments and similarly the death of Lakhan Mahto is being described as suicide under influence of alcohol.

Mr Soren demanded that a high-level probe should be conducted in the death of the farmers and officials who were responsible for delay in payment to the farmer should also be sacked from their jobs.
